Devlog 7

The extra assignments have been creeping up and personal life has gotten in the way of my part of the project. The progress has gotten slower and unfortunately I also wanted to make a cutscene for the start and end of the story. It seems like that may be unlikely but we also don’t have a list or document that clearly keeps track of everything we might need though I made my own list for myself. I asked the programmer what is left of the art to do and I got onto making the animations for idle. We had to meet up to decide the mechanics of the flowers as every meeting we ended up with a slightly different idea and after a day or two we felt like it was either way too complicated to implement so late or did not fit with the characters we wanted. It was easy to come up with a mechanic for the old one as they could be getting flashbacks of their past to help with the puzzles or schizophrenia that would give certain clues but there wasn’t much talk about how that would actually be implemented mechanically. Our lecturer gave us an idea that we could do that the old one will take a seed out of its head and plant a flower that would then activate a puzzle for the other flower. The yellow flower was still a mystery in it’s mechanics so I looked through google to look up the meaning of dandelions hoping for inspiration and inspiration it gave. I found a Facebook post that was talking about how a dandelion is the only flower that takes the three celestial forms - the sun (yellow stage), the moon (grey seeds stage), the stars (as the wind blows the seeds out into the world). There was an idea to come up with a new set of mechanics and abandon the seed planting one for the old one but we struggled to come up with something that would relate to the moon. Though now that I think of it, the seed planting could relate to the stars as it plants a ‘star’ into the ground for some kind of wish that comes true.
