Devlog 6
Once the characters were approved by the both of us, I set out on the animations. The game idea was still a bit vague and I feel like we still don’t have a very strong start to the game but I kept going with the animations. I was asked by my teammate to do the walking animation first which led to questions needing answers as I haven’t considered how they will move or what method to use for animating as I haven’t animated sprites before. After some research I decided I have two options, either rig the whole character and move it in unity with keyframes or make a spritesheet. I weighed the pros and cons of each method and decided to attempt spritesheets. I watched a youtube tutorial that showed me how to do it in photoshop along with pulling out the timeline from the window options in photoshop. I outlined the character, putting the outlines on one layer and separating the colours on another with folders/groups to organise each frame. I decided to keep it simple with only a few frames that would then end up as a loop. I also was sketching around to come up with what the level could look like and decided to keep it in a garden with an apple tree that would mark the middle. I sent it over to the programmer as he also offered to do the level design.
